for the first 2 weeks the graft and donor tissue are very fragile
be very diligent at keeping the entire mouth as clean as possible
do not chew or bite at all in the graft or donor area
for the first 7 days try to stay away from any food | beverage that is hot | spicy | crusty | citrusy | yes, these restrictions also include coffee
for the first day after the surgery gently rinse only once or twice with salt water |thereafter rinse 6 to 8 times per day with salt water for one week | salt water = 1 tsp salt mixed in 1 cup of water
do not use any other mouthwash except what we have prescribed for you
gently clean the graft once a day with a wet q-tip
during the first 2 weeks, the graft area will be swollen, look very red or white and everything in between | do not worry | 2 more weeks and things will look much better
bruising and swelling will occur and will be visible on the skin - the size and duration depends on each person, and generally, larger grafts will lead to more bruising and swelling than smaller grafts | many people do not develop any bruising or swelling
the sutures will dissolve | those on the roof of the mouth will disappear in approximately 1 week while sutures around the graft take about 4-6 weeks to dissolve
take all your medications as prescribed
